STAR

STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events are competitive events in which chapter members may participate in at regional, state, and even national level. Star Events are separated into three different levels depending on the participants grade. Level one being 7-8 grade participants, Level two being 9-10 grade participants, and Level 3 being 11-12 grade participants. In our junior high chapter (level one) there are typically many members that participate in STAR Events. Participation in STAR Events can open up participants potential, educate them more, and even give them more career opportunities, as well as offer scholarships for college. There are nearly 30 different STAR Events participants can choose from. All of these events recognize those participants who demonstrate their skills, knowledge, & abilities to identify an issue within the families, careers, and communities, and then research the topic and develop a project to advocate for a change.

Online STAR Events

Online STAR Events work by focusing on integrating Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) content through a digital delivery. Online events also have an online preliminary round of competition at the national level.

The participants Chapter Advisors must register members entries by February 1st in order to compete in the preliminary competition round.

​

$25 is the fee per participant. During this registration, active project URLs have to be provided, all projects also must be ready for evaluation during that time. The chapters responsibility is to ensure that all project content is public or available to anyone that has access to the link. 

​

The top 15 entries in each event and level throughout the nation qualify to compete at the national level.

During the 2022-2023 school year, Bailey Wheeler participated with Claire Salmon on the Chapter Website Star Event. Bailey Wheeler and Claire Salmon acheived gold for their STAR Event at the State Level. Bailey Wheeler and Claire Salmon acheived gold for their STAR Event at the National Level.

Missouri State Knowledge Test

During the 2022-2023 school year, Ashlyn Oyler Participated in the Missouri STAR Test STAR Event. Ashlyn Oyler acheived gold for their STAR Event at the Regional Level. Ashlyn Oyler acheived bronze for their STAR Event at the State Level.

Chapter Website (online)

The FCCLA Chapter Website is an individual or team event. It recognizes participants who use a chapter website to educate, inform, and involve members and the general public about the importance of the Family and Consumer Sciences program and the FCCLA Chapter.

Missouri State Knowledge Test

The Missouri State Knowledge Test is an individual event. It recognizes participants who are interested in learning about the history and current operations of the organization through completion of written knowledge exam. 

Sports Nutrition

The Sports Nutrition STAR Event is an individual or team event. It recognizes participants who use Family and Consumer Science skills to plan and develop an individualized nutritional plan to meet the needs of a competitive student athletic in a specific sport.

Instructional Video (online)

The Intructional Video STAR Event is an individual or team event. It recognizes participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to research, plan, and create an instructional video to deliver content as part of a lesson unit of instruction.

Pond to Pan Instructional Video is about the process of catching a fish, preparing the fish, cooking the fish, and finally, enjoying it!
